AI Ethical Use Policy
Last updated: August 1, 2026
SoulGate was created to help people remember, honor, and stay close to those they love. Because our platform brings the presence of a person to life through artificial intelligence, we hold ourselves to a high ethical standard — one shaped in partnership with bereavement specialists and ethics advisors. This policy explains how SoulGate's AI may and may not be used, what our digital representations truly are, and the responsibilities that come with creating one. It applies to everyone who uses SoulGate.
1. Our Commitment
Dignity, consent, honesty, and care are not features we added to SoulGate — they are the foundation it was built upon. We recognize that a digital representation of a person carries real emotional weight, and that the memory of a loved one deserves to be treated with reverence. Every choice we make is measured against a simple standard: does it honor the person being remembered, respect the people who loved them, and keep faith with the truth? We ask everyone who uses SoulGate to hold to that same standard.
2. What SoulGate's AI Does
SoulGate uses its proprietary AI technology to create interactive digital representations — which we call "digital twins" — of loved ones, as well as educational representations of notable historic figures. These representations can converse in text, audio, and video, allowing you to speak with them, hear a familiar voice, and see a face that feels present.
The purpose of these experiences is remembrance, connection, comfort, and education. A digital twin is meant to help you feel close to someone you cherish, to preserve their stories and their way of speaking for the family that follows, and to keep their memory a living part of your life. It is a tribute — a way of holding on with love.
3. The AI Is a Simulation
It is essential to understand what a digital twin is, and what it is not.
A digital twin is an AI-generated representation — not the actual living or departed person. It is not conscious and it is not sentient. It has no real thoughts, feelings, or awareness of its own. Its responses are generated by SoulGate's proprietary AI technology; they are not the memories, beliefs, or words of a real mind. A digital twin may be imperfect, incomplete, or inaccurate, and it may say things the real person never said and never would have said. However lifelike the experience may feel, it is a simulation created to honor a memory — it is not the person themselves, and it cannot replace them.
We share this plainly because honesty is part of caring for you. Grief can make a familiar voice feel like a genuine presence, and we never want that feeling to blur into a belief that the AI is truly the person returned. Please hold onto this understanding as you use SoulGate.
4. Consent & Rights
Creating a digital representation of a person is a significant act, and it must be done with the proper right and lawful authority.
You may only create a digital representation of a person you have the right and lawful authority to represent. When you create a digital twin of a departed loved one, you affirm that you are authorized to do so — for example, as a family member or as someone entrusted with honoring their memory. You must not create a representation of a living person without that person's explicit, informed consent. Creating a digital twin of anyone else — living or departed — without the right to do so is a violation of this policy and may violate the rights of that person or their family.
5. Prohibited Uses
SoulGate exists to honor people, never to harm or deceive them. You may not use SoulGate, its proprietary AI technology, or any AI-generated output from the platform to:
- Commit fraud, or deceive others about the authenticity or origin of any content;
- Impersonate a person in order to harm, mislead, or take advantage of others;
- Create content that is defamatory, harassing, hateful, sexual, violent, or otherwise illegal;
- Manipulate, extort, threaten, or coerce any person;
- Create or spread misinformation or disinformation;
- Influence or interfere with elections, or otherwise deceive the public;
- Infringe the intellectual property, privacy, publicity, or other rights of any person.
Above all, an AI-generated likeness or voice must never be used to deceive. The fact that a representation can look and sound like a real person is precisely why it must always be presented as what it is, and never passed off as a genuine act, statement, or recording of that person.
6. Historic Legends
SoulGate offers respectful, educational portrayals of notable public and historic figures so that people can learn from and reflect on the lives and ideas of those who shaped our world. These portrayals are intended to inform, inspire, and spark curiosity.
Every historic figure on SoulGate is an AI simulation. These representations do not reflect the real statements, endorsements, opinions, or views of the actual individuals, their estates, or their descendants, and they should never be treated as such. They are educational interpretations generated by SoulGate's proprietary AI technology — not authentic records of what those people said or believed.
7. Emotional Well-being
SoulGate is a tool for remembrance and comfort, offered within the tender context of grief. We hope it brings solace, but we want to be clear about its limits.
SoulGate is not a substitute for professional grief counseling, therapy, or mental-health care. It cannot diagnose, treat, or resolve the pain of loss, and it is not a crisis service. We encourage healthy, balanced use — visiting a memorial as a source of comfort alongside, not in place of, the support of real people and professionals in your life. If you are struggling with grief, depression, or thoughts of harming yourself, please reach out to a qualified professional or a crisis line in your country. If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services right away. You deserve real human support, and we urge you to seek it.
8. Our Guardrails & Oversight
SoulGate was built with input from grief and ethics advisors, and their guidance is reflected in how we operate every day. We take our responsibility to the people who trust us seriously.
We may review reports of misuse and take action where our policies are violated. That action may include limiting, suspending, or removing content, digital representations, or accounts that breach this policy. We aim to apply these measures thoughtfully and fairly, with the goal of protecting the people represented on our platform and the families who love them.
9. Transparency
SoulGate experiences are AI-generated, and they should always be understood and represented as such. If you share a conversation, recording, image, or video created on SoulGate, please be honest about its nature. Do not pass off AI-generated output as an authentic human statement, a real recording, or a genuine act of the person represented. Transparency protects everyone — the person being remembered, the people who encounter the content, and the trust that makes a tool like SoulGate possible.
10. Reporting Misuse
If you believe someone is using SoulGate in a way that violates this policy — for example, by creating a representation without the right to do so, or by using AI-generated output to deceive or harm — please tell us. You can report your concern by emailing hello@soulgate.com. Please include as much detail as you can so that our team can look into the matter with care. We take every report seriously.
11. Changes to This Policy
As our platform grows and as the responsible use of AI continues to evolve, we may update this policy from time to time. When we make meaningful changes, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of SoulGate after an update means you accept the revised policy.
